About This Course

This course is based on everyday occurrences in buildings and structures. The course will provide you with detailed knowledge on asbestos and its hazards.

This course is intended for the attendees to gain further knowledge and experience in all aspects of asbestos abatement including: asbestos management, removal techniques and procedures, health effects and exposure, government regulations and guidelines, personal protection and material product identification.

Course Outline:

  • History of Asbestos and Its Uses

(Introduction to asbestos, the asbestos family, types of asbestos, common uses of asbestos, industrial and commercial properties, asbestos containing products and consumer products).

  • Health Effects Associated with Asbestos Exposure (Introduction, Asbestos and Smoking, Asbestos Points of Entry, the Respiratory Pathway, Asbestosis, Lung Cancer, Mesothelioma)
  • Asbestos The Hazard: Inspection, Assessing and Management (Plant and facility inspection requirements, asbestos regulations and guidelines, asbestos building assessments, reviewing building records, assessing the physical appearance of asbestos, bulk sample collection and analysis, assessing the hazards, role of air monitoring, sampling surface dusts)

(Asbestos removal, asbestos encapsulation, asbestos enclosure, operation and maintenance programs)
